Description & Objectives:

Pressure injuries can develop due to immobility, shear, moisture, and medical devices. To effectively assess and create a care plan, the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP) has established a staging classification system. This system helps determine the extent of damage to skin, tissue, and structures through visible and palpable wound assessments.

Upon completion of this lesson, participants will be able to:

Identify 6 stages of pressure injuries based on wound presentation per NPIAP definitions and staging guidelines.
List 3 common medical devices that increase the risk of Medical Device-Related Pressure Injury (MDRPI).
Distinguish between stable and unstable pressure injuries and identify 2 interventions for each.
