Description & Objectives:

Skin tears are quite common, especially on the limbs of older adults and young children. These injuries are often underestimated, but they can be quite serious. For those with additional health issues, such as diabetes or compromised immune systems, skin tears can lead to slower healing, infections, and other complications. The International Skin Tear Advisory Panel (ISTAP) is a commonly used classification system providing best practice recommendations for the management of skin tears.

Describe 3 types of skin tears due to mechanical trauma.
Identify 3 topical treatments for skin tears.
List 2 protection and prevention interventions for skin tears.
