Description & Objectives:

This program will review tissue load management concepts, principles, and product classifications for the pressure relief of patients with existing pressure injuries and for the prevention of pressure injuries. Lying and sitting options for beds and wheelchairs will be reviewed as well as safety assessments and options for beds and wheelchairs. Furthermore, offloading options for the diabetic foot, concepts of care, various product options, their features, and their benefits will be reviewed.

Upon completion of this lesson, participants will be able to:

Identify 3 reasons why reducing tissue loads can be beneficial.
Explain how immersion, envelopment, entrapment, and "Bottoming out" impact tissue offloading.
State the "Gold Standard" and another device for offloading a plantar diabetic foot ulcer.
