Description & Objectives:

Nutrition and Wound Healing: Nutrition is critical for wound prevention and healing. Chronic wounds place extra demands on the body, so patients need enough protein, carbs, fats, vitamins, and minerals to support recovery. Non-prescribing clinicians play an important role on the nutrition team. They screen patients for malnutrition, complete assessments when needed, and connect patients with further evaluation. Beyond diet changes, some patients may also need supplements, appetite stimulants, or suppressants to support healing.

List 4 factors that may contribute to overnutrition.
State 3 risks for dehydration in hospitalized patients.

Acute Wounds: An acute wound occurs when the skin and underlying tissues are suddenly injured, typically due to trauma or burns. The body naturally starts the healing process, but complications can arise, leading to stalled healing and chronic wounds. In this presentation, we'll explore the four stages of normal wound healing, the factors that influence it, and the best practices for healthcare providers to support healing acute wounds and prevent complications.
