This lesson builds core wound care skills by distinguishing acute from chronic wounds and understanding the factors that affect healing. You’ll learn to stage pressure injuries using the NPIAP framework, apply NERDS and STONES criteria to detect infection, and review the fundamentals of skin grafts—covering indications, types, and key considerations for success.
Objectives:
1. Identify the differences between acute and chronic wounds, including factors that influence healing.
2. Review the stages of pressure injuries according to the NPIAP framework for accurate classification and documentation.
3. Apply NERDS and STONES criteria to recognize clinical signs of wound infection and guide intervention.
4. Review the basic principles of skin grafts, including indications, types and key considerations for wound healing success.
