Description:
This lesson builds core wound care skills by distinguishing acute from chronic wounds and understanding the factors that affect healing. Learners will stage pressure injuries using the NPIAP framework, apply NERDS and STONES criteria to identify infection, learn how to accurately measure for compression stockings and garments, and review the clinical impact and practical implications of the Lymphedema Treatment Act on compression access, documentation, and patient care.
Objectives:
1. Identify the differences between acute and chronic wounds, including factors that influence healing.
2. Review the stages of pressure injuries according to the NPIAP framework for accurate classification and documentation.
3. Apply NERDS and STONES criteria to recognize clinical signs of wound
infection and guide intervention.
4. Describe the role of compression stockings in the management of edema associated with lower-extremity wounds.
